By now you’re familiar with the virtues of Facebook as an inbound marketing tool that stretches the vital word of mouth element of marketing into the digital realm. A fan pages is an organic place for alumni and current and prospective parents who are already on Facebook to see what your school is doing and use your content as a prompt for discussion and interaction.

Tip of the Week: One way to capitalize on your social media presence is to create Facebook events. These events are similar to Evites, however you can create public events with no invite list at all and, budget permitting, promote your events with ads. Any Facebook user who meets the criteria you set (distance from the school, age, education, etc.) will be shown the ad. You can set a budget for the ad that works for your school and Facebook will automatically get you the best bang for your buck.

Public events are ideal for open houses or anything aimed at getting people on campus, whether they are affiliated with the school or not. A recent Facebook ad we ran was seen by more than 150,000 people, for half the price of a quarter page print ad in one of our local newspapers.
